From first contact to the final drop-off Nick was welcoming, helpful and informative. He explained how everything worked and stocked the van with milk, ground coffee and some beers. The van has everything you need for your staycation and as we went in the middle of winter we made full use of the diesel heater which was so warm we had it on the lowest setting we could for the evenings. As for the experience, we couldn't have asked for a better moment when you drive by a lake and you are able to stop right beside it and make breakfast just as the sun rises. It was a picture perfect memory.

From the initial contact with Nick through to dropping Vinnie the Van back home, we had excellent service, a first class camper and a fantastic holiday in Scotland. Vinnie is equipped with everything you need and even a few beers thrown in too! Living in Vinnie for just over a week was fab. We loved the freedom of the open road and pitching up in the most glorious of places, waking up to a sunrise over the Scottish Highlands still wrapped up in your bed really is something. If you want a holiday with a difference and plenty of adventure, this is definitely for you.

As an overseas visitor, we sometimes need more support than a local - this was immediately forthcoming from the owner. We were shown everything in the van and no question was unanswered. The individual attention was everything to us and got our holiday to an excellent start. Customer care is paramount to the owner, and as a family, this set up us up for a great trip. The van operated without issue, cruising on the motorway, climbing mountain roads, nimble on single track lanes of Scotland. Pick up and drop off personally tailored to our needs. The cost was so reasonable. I'd never go to a big provider after such a positive experience.

The van was in excellent condition. It was very clean and incredibly well stocked. Pick-up and drop-off were straightforward and efficient which meant maximum time could be had on the open road. The van is a great spec (sat nav, cruise control, DAB radio with smart phone connectivity). I thought i'd have a good time - I had an excellent time.

I chose this company as the vans were brand new and they allowed dogs. Nick the owner was such a lovely guy, very friendly. He went through the set up of the van, fold away tables, pop up roof etc before we left on our journey. And what an experience it was! It was fantastic to drive and for me being a passenger it was a pleasure to be driven in. The van itself was very modern and extremely spacious. The bed was comfortable and the cooker was easy to use. Nick supplied us with everything we could of possibly needed, from a Kettle for your morning brew to wind breaks and chairs for the beach! We had a holiday we will never forget in a van that was truly unforgettable. I will definitely be using this company again, especially as they have a few vans so we can go away with our friends and family in a camper convoy! I wouldn't use anyone else, Great guy, Great vans, Highly recommend.

We had a great trip in Vinnie the Van. Thanks to Nick for being so efficient, friendly and helpful. He gave us an excellent tour of the van - it was well equipped and spotless. Loved the orange colour scheme for all the equipment! We went to the lakes and also tried out the awning which gave us extra space for the kids, and it was handy to have the bike rack too. As tent campers this was our first venture into the world of camper vans and it feels like we're hooked.

We hired Vinnie for a weekend and had a fabulous time. From the first moment of contact, Nick was incredibly friendly and helpful. This was the first time we have camped in a VW van with 2 small children and a dog and so we were a little nervous. We had an absolutely wonderful weekend. The van was everything we had hoped for and exactly as described on the website. Nick was very helpful in explaining how it all worked. We would definitely hire this van again. We couldn't recommend Vinnie and Nick more highly.

Nick went out of his way to make us feel welcome and picked us up from the airport. A long weekend in the Lakes with some great walks, lovely food and a couple of great country pubs, with a lovely campsite at Skelwith. Vinnie behaved himself and was well kitted out and supplied. A really good few days and I wouldn't hesitate to use Manchester Camper Hire again.

We had a wonderful 2 weeks in Vinnie. Nick was extremely helpful in organising the adventure and sent us off with extra goodies to help with our journey. The van was everything we were looking for and I would highly reccommend anyone who is thinking of hiring a van to do so. We decided to give it a go instead of camping as we now have a 2 year old that we didn't feel was safe with cooking equipment. In the van everything is out of reach and then folds out of the way. The fridge kept everything cool, and when the weather turned bad the cabin was a nice and cosy place to retire to.

Our weekend in Abersoch was so lovely. Vinnie slept two girls with lots of stuff very easily! The fact we could drive to the beach and back and to any restaurant we wanted was sooo much fun! The camper vans we have for hire are modern Volkswagen T5 Transporters, with DAB radio, sat-nav, aircon, and bluetooth connection for your phone and music. When you're on the move, our campervans comfortably seat four or five, and have plenty of space and storage for your clothes, bedding and food. They're not much bigger than a people carrier, so are easy to drive, turn and park anywhere. The campervans are fitted with reversing sensors to help out on tricky spots too. Under the bonnet our camper vans have a modern 1.9TDi engine, which can carry you for over 600 miles on a single tank.

When you've arrived at your perfect spot, the campers sleeps two people on the fold out rear seat, and there’s more bed space in the roof, as well as a bedroom in the optional awning. Both beds are ready in a matter of seconds, and fold away just as quickly. There's a wardrobe and shelves, a fridge freezer, a sink, and a double ceramic hob and heater for the cooler nights. LED lighting is fitted all around the vans which will run off the leisure battery, and there are 12v and 240v sockets so you'll always be able to charge your phone! The front seat swivels round to face the rear, so everyone can sit around the two fold out tables. For safety there's a fire extinguisher and smoke alarm, and insurance and breakdown cover is included in the price.

We've tried to think of everything, so that you don't have to. In the campervans you'll find a handy information pack which should answer any questions you'll have while you're away.

Campsites

We’ve been to sites up and down the country in the vans, so more than happy to recommend sites for you. Everyone has very different ideas of the perfect campsite, so we’ve tried to include a real mix on this map. If you know of any cracking sites that we haven’t listed, please let us know so we can add them to the map.

FAQ's

Do I need electric hook up at the Campsite?
There’s an electric hook-up cable provided, so you can use it if you wish, but it isn’t essential. The leisure battery will run everything while you’re away – the only thing that won’t work on the leisure battery are the 3 pin 240v sockets, but there are USB sockets to charge your phones.
How many people does the van sleep?
The rear seats pull out into a double bed suitable for 2 adults which is 190cm x 105cm. The roof bed is 225cm x 100cm so perfect for 1 adult or 2 children. There’s also the option of the driveaway awning which has a 240cm x 140cm bedroom pod in it. This will also sleep 2 adults or children.
What are the dimensions of the van?
The vans are all 4.9m long, 2.0m high, and 1.9m wide
What equipment is included?
  • A first aid kit and a fire extinguisher
  • A kettle, a Cafetiere, tea, coffee, and sugar, salt and pepper
  • 2 saucepans, a frying pan and utensils
  • Plates, mugs, glasses, cutlery and a bottle opener
  • Jump leads (just in case) and an electric hook-up cable
  • A folding BBQ, mini-windbreak, camping chairs, table and picnic blanket
  • Tea towels, bin bags, cloths and sweeping brush
  • A full water bottle for the sink
  • Optional sun canopy, driveaway awning, bike rack
What about bedding?
We don’t include bedding as people are usually very particular about their perfect pillow and ideal quilt! You’ll just need to bring pillows and a sheet and duvet, or just a sleeping bag if you prefer. If you’re visiting from abroad and don’t have space for a sleeping bag, just let us know and we can sort some bedding for you. If you’re intending to sleep in the roof space, you’ll just need a roll mat or small airbed. We can provide one if you don’t have your own.
How can I secure a booking?
You can book instantly through the website, with us over the phone, or by email. Your booking isn’t confirmed until you have paid all or part of the price of the holiday. We’ve always tried to be as lenient as possible, but unfortunately this has ended up with us being let down at the last minute. You can pay by BACS, Credit Card, PayPal, or cheque.
What do I need to bring with me on the day?
Please remember to bring your photocard driving license, your DVLA check code, a bill from the last 3 months with your home address on it, and a way of paying the security deposit.
What’s a DVLA check code?
The DVLA check code replaced the paper counterpart of your driving license in June 2015. By sharing the code with us, we can view your licence to make sure you it meets our conditions. You’ll need your driving licence number, postcode, and National Insurance Number to get your code.
How can I pay the refundable security deposit?
You can pay the security deposit by cleared cheque, BACS, PayPal, or using a debit or credit card. With card payments we do a ‘pre-authorisation’ transaction which ringfences the funds in your account without taking the payment. We recommend using a credit card for this as although no money leaves your account, it can prevent you accessing your funds. Additionally, whilst we abort the transaction as soon as you get back, some banks can take much longer to allow you to access the funds again.
Who’s allowed to drive the van?
Included in the cost of hire is insurance for two drivers. You can be covered by our fully comprehensive, self-drive hire insurance as long as you:
  • Hold a UK or European driving license. Some other countries accepted too – please ask.
  • Are aged 23-75
  • Have 3 or more years driving experience
  • Have 6 or fewer penalty points on your license.
Other exclusions apply, so please check if you’re not sure.
What are the collection and drop-off times?
Our standard collection time is from 3pm, and drop-off is by 11am. For an extra fee of £50 you can extend the drop-off time to 6pm. We have to charge for this as it means we can’t send the van out for another day. If no one has the van immediately before or after you, we’ll always try to be flexible on the timings, but this can’t be guaranteed.
Is the driveaway awning easy to put up?
After a lot of research into the ‘perfect awning’ we chose the Outwell Country Road, as it is good quality, spacious, sturdy, relatively compact to transport, and yes – easy to put up. There’s a link to a video here which shows how to put it up, but just check with us before you go if you aren’t sure!
Do you have a slightly more fabulous awning?
Yes we do! If you want a bit more style and luxury, you could take our ‘Glawning’, an awesome 4 metre bell tent with a bedroom pod, carpet, and even a woodburner! You can see more information here.
Can you recommend some campsites?
Sure, we’ve been to sites up and down the country in the vans, so more than happy to recommend sites for you. Everyone has very different ideas of the perfect campsite, so we’ve tried to include a real mix on this map. If you know of any cracking sites that we haven’t listed, please let us know so we can add them to the map.
Are there ISOFIX points in the van for child seats?
All seats in the vans have 3-point seatbelts, but due to the design of the pull-out bed, there are no ISOFIX points.
Can we leave our car with you while we’re away?
We have a very limited amount of space at MCH-HQ, so we’d prefer it if you could arrive by tram, train, bus, or we can collect you from the station or the airport. If you can’t get a lift, then please get in touch and we’ll try and arrange something for you.
How much fuel does the van use?
It normally costs around £90 to fill the diesel tank in the van. Average fuel consumption is around 35mpg. You should be able to travel for around 600 miles on a full tank of diesel, which works out at 15p per mile.
Who does the conversions on your vans?
We use a company called Vamoose to convert all of our vans. They’ve been converting Volkswagen vans for decades, and design their own pop-top roof, Bedrock reclining bed, and lots of other nifty features. They install a Waeco fridge, a Smev sink, and a Wallas XC Duo hob and heater. If you’re thinking of getting your own van converted, give them a call!
What’s the difference between the vans?
There’s a comparison chart on the website which gives an overview of the vans, but essentially they’re all the same. The main difference is that some have 5 seats and some have 4 seats.
What storage space is there in the van for when we’re travelling?
Each van has plenty of storage space. There are lots of little cubby holes, but the main bits are approximately:
  • Under the rear seats – 55cm deep x 25cm high x 80cm wide
  • Under the rear of the bed – 65cm deep x 39cm high x 95cm wide
  • On top of the rear of the bed – 60cm deep x 75cm high x 115cm wide
  • The wardrobe – 90cm deep x 120cm high x 45cm wide
  • Space behind the front seats – 105cm x 115cm
Is there a tow-bar or roof-rack?
At the moment none of our vans have roof racks or tow bars as people usually find they have enough space in the van itself without needing to take extra stuff. We do have a limited number of bike racks available which attach to the tailgate.
Will we need levelling chocks?
We don’t provide levelling chocks with the vans, as most UK campsites are relatively level. When we’re away in the van we use the spirit level app on our phone to find a bit of flat field to get the van as level as we can and that normally does the trick!
Do you rent out campervans or larger motorhomes?
We only have short wheelbase Volkswagen T6 campervans available for hire.
Do you allow dogs?
Absolutely, we love dogs, and dogs love the campervans! There’s plenty of space for a crate or bed in the van, and they love chilling under the canopy when you’re at the campsite. There is a small surcharge of £25 for the additional cleaning time to get the van ready for the next person.
Where can we leave a review after our trip?
We love to get feedback when you get back from your trip. Please do let us know anything you feel we could improve. If you want to leave a review you can go to TripAdvisor or Google, you can follow us and share content on our Facebook page, or you can follow us and use #manchestercamperhire on Instagram to share your pictures.

If you’ve got any other questions, please just call or email at any time.
